"You Don't Look Like a Doctor"

3 Year Healthy Checkup

On September 18th we went to our 3 year healthy checkup. The twins love playing "doctor" at home so they were actually so excited to see the real doctor. When the nurse did Gracie's height measurement she asked if we could remove her bow because it was adding another two in inches to her height! Speaking of measurements, I was so proud that my babies had grown to be all caught up after their tiny little starts. Gracie was 32 1/2 pounds-66% for weight, 37 3/4 inches-64% for height and a BMI of 16-61%. Bailey was 33 1/2-67% for weight, 38 1/8inches-63% for height and a BMI of 16.20-57%. The doctor actually checked their records from last year because he couldn't believe their comparisons. He also congratulated me on only 2 sick appointments for the last year and I gave thanks to God for that one! During the visit, Dr.Cox did not have on his white coat. Gracie looked at Dr.Cox after he walked in the room and said "you don't look like a doctor." He asked her what she thought he looked like and she said "a daddy." It was one of those moments where I held my breath as I waited for her answer! They loved visiting the "real doctor" and I loved that we didn't have to have any shots this visit. I am so thankful for my healthy little ones.

Sun in September

We were relieved that the most recent hurricane only did minimal damage to the beach house. It did dump ALOT of sand under and around the house. The storm also knocked out a portion of the steps but they were repaired quickly. It was great to get to enjoy the beach in September because the weather was perfect with a constant sunny breeze. My parents and sister, Laura with her husband Ken joined us on vacation. Laura's Birthday was on Saturday so it was fun to celebrate with a trip to LuLu's restaurant where the twins loved playing in the sand while the grown ups ate dinner. The ocean was constantly in high tide and practically came up all the way to the house. We started calling Obsession an ocean house instead of a beach house! The water was perfect for the kids because since the tide was so high it meant that there was a ton of shallow water and wading pools. Gracie spent lots of time jumping in the waves and riding Aunt LaLa's boat in the ocean. Bailey loved bringing his dinosaurs into the beach pool made by the ocean. I have never seen him play so hard as he did with his dinosaurs in the water. Preston and I enjoyed the sun along with all the yummy seafood. We are very blessed that we can excape to his familie's little treasure in the sun.

Visiting our Hero's

I thought it was a great idea that our twin club decided to visit our hero's in remembrance of 9/11. We met a park next door to Fire Station 63 in Johns Creek and the fire fighters were so nice to guard the crosswalk for all the mommas and little ones. When we went in the station for our tour the firefighter kept looking around and he seemed a little confused. He said "so you are twins, and you are twins and there are more twins." Nobody had explained to him that we were the North Fulton Mothers of Multiples! He was very nice and showed us around the station. We took a mini fire safety course where the kids practiced calling for help and "stop, drop and rolling." Bailey became frightened when the fire fighter put on all of his gear with the mask and oxygen. The firefighter said the scary suit was one of the reasons why children will hide when they are in a fire and that it was great to introduce it to kids in a non emergency setting. Gracie was brave and got to sit in the seat of the fire truck. Bailey was content with hanging out on the bumper of the truck. Gracie and Bailey may be too little to understand the events of 9/11 but they now understand that firefighters are our hero's.

Labor Day Ice Cream

We were excited to visit Helen for the Labor Day Holiday. Preston's parents invited us to join them at their timeshare. It was nice to get out of the house especially after being inside for so long during my recovery. The weekend was so much fun. The timeshare has a great pool which the twins loved along with a tennis court full of games and tricycles. Preston gave Gracie and Bailey their first golf lesson and they loved hitting balls with their Daddy. While he played his real game of golf, Becky and I took the twins to the playground and to visit the shops in Helen. They loved playing and when they were done I decided to let them have their first trip to a real ice cream shop. They seem to be growing out of their Lactose intolerance and so they haven't had alot of ice cream. I have been introducing it to them slowly and so it was fun to watch their eyes as they were trying to decide which flavor to chose at the ice cream shop. Bailey chose chocolate and Gracie decided on strawberry after much deliberation. Aunt Kara also joined us for the weekend. It was great to relax by the pool and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the mountains.

First Day of School

Gracie and Bailey's first day of school was on August 20th. They are attending North Lanier Baptist's Weekday on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-1. I was still recovering from surgery and so I was sad to not be able to drive the twins to school for their first day. My Mom took them and I was very thankful to have Granny's help! Their teacher asked them to both bring a teddy bear for show and tell. They were excited to bring a teddy bear with them and I think it helped to ease any nervousness. They each had a new book bag and lunch box for this year. I think it is funny in the picture above that Gracie's book bag is almost as big as her!
When the twins arrived home I was so excited to hear about the first day. I asked them about their day and Bailey said "My teacher did not listen to me." I asked "well what were you trying to tell her" and he replied, " that I wanted to play some more." We of course had a discussion about how it is our job to listen to the teacher but I thought Bailey's response was pretty funny and I was glad that he was obviously having a fun time playing. Their teacher this year is Mrs. Mary and she seems to be very sweet and so I am excited to see what my babies "oops I mean big kids"  will learn this year. These pictures are the best I could do with a splint on my nose and little ability to keep up with fast moving toddlers!

One step forward two steps back!

I haven't posted since the twins Birthday and there is a pretty good reason. I had surgery on August 15th and it completely was not what was expected. Long story short I have had really bad sinus infections for the last couple years. The last sinus infection caused me to go to the dentist because the pain was so severe that I thought I had cracked a tooth. The dentist sent me to urgent care and the doctor at urgent care sent me for an emergency CAT scan which revealed that my nose was severely broken. My best guess is from playing soccer since I was 5 years old. That infection took three rounds of antibiotics, two steroid packs, a steroid shot and an antibiotic shot. I almost was admitted to the hospital and so I figured it was probably time to see an ENT. The ENT confirmed that I needed surgery. I went back to my surgeon who had performed surgery on me when I was a child as my parents had researched the best of the best. He is really good but his bedside manner is well to say the least...horrible! I was not prepared for the amount of stuff that he was going to do...rhinoplasty, septoplasty, repair of turbinates, skin graphs. He pretty much went to town on my nose. I came home with a splint on my nose and severe pain which lasted about a week. My pain got better for about two days before I developed a post op infection which made me feel like I was dying. The infection caused my throat to swell and bleed. I came home with five prescriptions in order to help fight this post op infection. I am now three weeks post surgery and just confirmed today that I have yet another infection from the surgery. I am SO ready for this whole ordeal to be over and to be completely healed. I am thankful that I live in a country with wonderful healthcare and that I have insurance to pay for the surgery. I also do not know what I would have done without my mom and Becky. My mom stayed for over a week to keep the twins and Becky helped with them during my post op infection. My sisters were so sweet to send meals to help out during my recovery. Thankfulness is what keeps me from throwing my hands in the air about this whole recovery process. Prayers are much appreciated as life hasn't been a cupcake lately but the love of my sweet husband and the smiles on my babies face make each day a little easier!
